GLENHAM – James D. Galvin, a resident of Glenham since 1971 and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 78.
Son of the late John J. and Marie (McDonough) Galvin, he was born in the Bronx on July 27, 1942. James worked as a Freihofer’s breadman for many years and later worked as a salesman for E.A. Morse & Co., Inc. in Middletown, retiring in 2010.
A parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill, he was a life member and Past Grand Knight of the 445 Council Knights of Columbus in Beacon, and was also a proud friend of Bill W. for 30 years. James loved visiting Long Beach Island, NJ, where he would spend time vacationing every year for nearly 70 years.
He enjoyed many hobbies including cooking, singing, and dancing. Above all else, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
On November 27, 1965, he married Carol A. Kelly at St. Raymond’s Church in the Bronx. Carol survives at home in Glenham.
Additional survivors include his three daughters: Carol Lahey & her husband Greg of Beacon, Elizabeth Amone of Hyde Park, and Jennifer Buchman & her husband Stephen of Beacon; his grandchildren: Alyssa, Brett, & Julia Lahey, Nicholas, Matthew, & Bridget Amone, and Justin Buchman; his sisters-in-law: Patricia Galvin and Joan Fairclough & her husband Joseph; as well as several nieces & nephews and other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to his parents, James was also predeceased by his brother Jack Galvin and his nephew, Terrence Galvin.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 3 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 4 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
