Dr. James N. Humenik, a resident of LaGrangeville, NY for the past 52 years, passed away on March 22, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 78 years old.
James was born on December 25, 1946, in Streator, IL, the son of the late Andrew and Frances (Tuley) Humenik. He earned his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois, where he not only honed his expertise in his field but also developed a lifelong passion for sports-particularly his alma mater's teams.
On August 15, 1970, James married the love of his life, Mary Jane, who survives him at home.
James had a distinguished career at IBM in East Fishkill, where he spent 40 years as a Senior Engineering Manager. Throughout his career, he co-authored numerous patents and played an instrumental role in the development of cutting-edge technologies.
In his personal life, James was a man of many talents. An avid golfer in his younger years, he later found a new passion in woodworking. Together with his best friend Srini, he designed and created numerous beautiful pieces, each showcasing his meticulous attention to detail and creativity. James was also an excellent short story writer-sharing his wit and wisdom with his many friends and family.
In addition to his wife, Mary Jane, James is survived by his beloved daughter, Lauren Humenik, and her husband, Alexander Lombard; his sister-in-law, Shirley Swanson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Janet Williams.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in James's name to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org.
