Osekoski
January 12, 1947 – January 10, 2025
James J. Osekoski, a Beacon resident since 1972 and formerly of Yonkers, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 77.
Son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Kocur) Osekoski, he was born in Yonkers on January 12, 1947. In 1965, he graduated from Charles E. Gorton High School, where he participated in the school's ROTC program.
After earning his college degree from Westchester Community College, James enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968. During his military tenure, he was stationed at several bases throughout the world including Utah, Colorado, Texas, and Japan. He was honorably discharged from active service as Sergeant in 1972 and continued as a reservist until 1974.
James worked as a civil engineer for the City of Yonkers for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2002. He attended St. Joachim Church in Beacon and enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, skiing, cooking, and baking. He was well known for his homemade cheesecake. James also enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, a loving father, and the best grandfather. He was a good soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
On December 15, 1968, he married Jean O'Reardon at the Church of St. Joseph in Bronxville. Jean survives at home in Beacon.
Additional survivors include his son, Paul Osekoski & his wife Dawn of Wappingers Falls; his grandchildren, Brooke and Liam Osekoski; his sisters, Mary McElrath & her husband Dave and Monica Bunnenberg & her husband Gil; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
James was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Joseph Osekoski; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Osekoski.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 17 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18 at the funeral home, followed by interment at St. Joachim Cemetery, 325 Washington Avenue, Beacon, NY.
