Obituary


James Plagianos, 68, an area resident for 36 years and formerly of the Bronx, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at his home. He was a dedicated husband and father, proud grandparent, and caring family member.
Born in Manhattan on November 1, 1941, Jim was the son of Nicholas and Frances Kasikas Plagianos. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army in Germany and France. After his honorable discharge, Jim became a civil engineer--a career that would last for over forty years until his retirement in 2009. His successful career brought him to many countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Italy. Jim was a passionate sports fan who loved rooting for his New York Giants and New York Yankees.  He also enjoyed traveling, gambling and visiting the racetrack.
On November 22, 1963 in New York City, James married Margaret Alfano. Marge predeceased him on May 7, 2009. He is survived by his children, Nicholas and wife, Gillian Plagianos of North Richland Hills, TX, Fayemarie Plagianos of Poughkeepsie, and Peter Plagianos of Hyde Park; his grandchildren, James, Sabrina, Gina, and Louis Plagianos; his mother, Frances Plagianos of Astoria; his brother, Peter Plagianos of Bellrose; his sisters, Lillian Dellis of Astoria and Marie Poe and her husband, Richard of Astoria; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Nicholas Pastrikos officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joachim's Cemetery in Beacon.
