Obituary

LAGRANGEVILLE – James E. Quigley, Jr., 78, of Lagrangeville, passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 19, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and an area resident for over 50 years. He previously lived on Long Island and in New Jersey.

Born on November 29, 1944 in New York City, James was the son of the late James E. and Mary I. (Stopka) Quigley, Sr. James proudly served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he began a career at IBM, where he worked for over 18 years before retiring in 1988.

James was a man of many interests and talents. He had a kind and generous spirit and found great joy in volunteering at Trinity United Methodist Church, especially in their food pantry. He was also very tech savvy, and often helped repair computers for his friends and family. However, his ultimate passion was photography. James had a keen eye for capturing the beauty of the LaGrange community, as well as numerous family members and friends. His photographs will be treasured memories for all who knew and loved him.

On June 30, 1967, in Ipswich, England, James married Susan (Bonner) Quigley, who survives him at home. He is also survived by his daughters, Laura Jewett and her husband Rich of East Brunswick, NJ, and Sara Quigley and her partner Yvette Renee of Oakland, CA; his grandchildren, Alexandra and Madeline Jewett and Naia and Desmond Quigley; his brother, Kevin Quigley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was also predeceased by his sister, Claudia Myers.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregivers and hospice team who provided compassionate care during his final days.

James will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, intelligence, and artistic spirit will be remembered and cherished by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of James to a charity of your choice, reflecting his passions and values. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home. Please visit his Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
