Pleasant Valley- James K. Turner, a resident of Pleasant Valley since 1972, passed away on
May 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old.
James, or Jim, was born on July 17, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late James H. and
Helen (Cleary) Turner. Growing up, Jim enjoyed traveling upstate to the family home in
Saugerties, NY. It was during these trips where he developed his love and appreciation of the
outdoors.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968, obtaining the
rank of Sergeant and serving in the Vietnam War.
On June 13, 1972, in Brooklyn, Jim married the one true love of his life, Arlene. She survives at
home. Together, Jim and Arlene moved to Pleasant Valley, NY, where they raised their 2
daughters and shared their home with their loyal labrador retrievers.
Jim thoroughly enjoyed traveling and camping. The family spent many summer vacations camping
in the Adirondack Mountains. Jim loved to visit the National Parks and appreciated traveling to
many countries all over the world with Arlene by his side.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, horseback riding and
shooting. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Trout and Game club, Casperkill Game Club
in Rhinebeck, 120 th NY Volunteers and a former puppy raiser for Puppies Behind Bars. Jim was
an excellent marksman who won countless medals in competitive shooting events, including the
Empire State Games and the Olympic trials.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his two daughters: Jennifer Turner Francese and
Kathleen Turner, his four beloved grandchildren: Jason Francese, James Francese, Jackson
Francese and Charlee Andruzzi, along with his two sisters: Peggy Mann and Lynne Salvadore
and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc. 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction
from 4pm – 8pm on Thursday, May 30, 2024. A funeral service will take place in the funeral
home at 11am on Friday, May 31, 204. Interment with military honors to follow at St. Peters
Cemetery, 171 Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY.
