Obituary

James Wesley Vincent, 91, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, NY.

Son of the late Edward E. Vincent, Sr. and Ella Mae Post, he was born on March 6, 1934 in Wappingers Falls, NY. Wes spent his childhood on a dairy farm in Lagrangeville and East Fishkill. After graduating from high school, he worked for Rieger Homes until launching his own construction company, specializing in craftsman homes and building residences for many family members. He also worked in the maintenance department at Vassar College for many years.

His hobbies included woodworking, and he also dabbed in politics, a subject which became one of his foremost passions. He was a longtime member of Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church in Lagrangeville.

He spent several years living in Cape Cod, where he met and married Nancy Hancock. After enduring some brutal winters, they decided to relocate to Florida. Nancy predeceased Wes on March 4, 2000.

Remaining in Florida, Wes later met Susan Burgoyne. The couple were married until Susan predeceased him on May 24, 2014.

In 2018, he moved back to New York State, residing with his niece in Newburgh. He later became a resident of Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center, where he was known for his incredible smile, contagious laughter, and wonderful vocal tones. He will be greatly missed by the staff and residents at Campbell Hall.

Survivors include his son, James Vincent & his wife Maria Bonica of North Carolina; his daughter, Ellen Vincent & her partner Alvin Watson of South Carolina; his son, Adam Vincent & his partner Danielle Becker of Florida; his daughter, Julie Cannon of Massachusetts; his granddaughter, Kimbell Vincent; many nieces and nephews, including Rosemarie, Deborah, Linda, Evelyn, Dorothy, and Edward; his cousins, Chester Vincent and Ronald Vincent; and his former wife and friend, Faythe Smith.

In addition to his two wives and parents, Wes was also preceded in death by his siblings: Marie F. Vincent, Edward Vincent & his wife Lorraine, and David Vincent & his wife Elizabeth; two nephews, Gerald Shafer and George Shafer; and a niece, Elizabeth Vincent.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 2 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. followed by interment at Freedom Plains Cemetery, 25 John J. Wagner Way, Lagrangeville, NY.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at both Campbell Hall and Kaplan Family Hospice who lovingly cared for Wes.
