James E. Washburn, 80, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1972 and previously of Hawthorne, died on October 4, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born on December 13, 1940 in White Plains, James was the son of James E. and Teresa (Tierney) Washburn. On September 8, 1973 in Yorktown Heights, James married Gurli Nielsen who predeceased him on December 10, 2018.
James was a union carpenter in Local 1134 in Mount Kisco for 38 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a life member and range officer of Whortlekill Rod and Gun Club. He loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing.
James is survived by his children, Debra Evans and her husband Matthew of Hopewell Junction, James R. Washburn of Pleasant Valley; his grandchildren, Amy Haggerty Falcon, Megan Haggerty, Matthew Evans, Jessica Smith, Nichole Winne and Ryan Washburn; his great grandchildren, Aiden Falcon, Ava Sgaramella, Brynn Smith, Rory Winne, Bailey Winne, Addison Mahurin and Ollivander Washburn.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 16 from 10am – 12pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held at 12pm.
