Jane Martha Rathbun Herring, 80, a resident of Wappingers Falls for 57 years, died peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2015 at her home.

Jane was born in East Springfield, NY on February 6, 1935, the daughter of Dean O. Rathbun and L. Marguerite Jones Rathbun. She grew up on Shadowbrook Dairy Farm, a real farmer's daughter and a country girl at heart. Jane pursued her teaching degree at New Paltz, working as a substitute teacher in the Wappingers Central School District, but her primary focus was being a loving wife and mother. She had a lifelong love of music and taught organ lessons for years.

Jane was a 50 year plus member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls serving as Church Elder, Bible Study Leader, and on various committees too numerous to list. She also was a faithful member of the Women's Morning Fellowship, contributing her knitting and crocheting skills by making countless baby sweaters for Church World Services. Jane was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

On July 22, 1956 in East Springfield, NY, Jane married Frederick Albert Herring, who survives at home. She is also survived by her son, Dean Frederick Herring and his wife Susan of Youngsville, NC; her grandson, Michael Herring and his wife Sarah of Youngsville, NC; her brother, Richard D. Rathbun of East Springfield; and her sister, Ellen Delocis of Hopewell Junction.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will be in East Springfield Cemetery in the spring.
