Jane Mary Sawner of New Rochelle passed away suddenly on December 26, 2009 at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle.

Born in Glens Falls, NY on June 25, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Henry R. Sawner and Rose (Clark) Sawner who still resides at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill, NY.

Jane graduated from Fort Ann Central School in Washington County and SUNY Plattsburgh in Clinton County.  She eventually went on to earn a Masters Degree in Education.  Jane taught elementary school at the Dix Avenue Elementary School in Glens Falls, NY and in the Red Hook School District. She also volunteered with the Vista Program for several years.

She is survived by her mother, Rose; her brother, James Sawner and his wife, Penny of Poughquag, NY; her nephews, Shannon Sawner of Lawrence, KS, Matthew Mason of Palm Coast, FL and James M. Sawner of Poughquag, NY. She was predeceased by her father, Henry Sawner; her brother, Donald Sawner; her sister, Kathleen Sawner; and her niece, Karen Sawner.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
