Obituary

Jane Frances Stabile, age 69 of Kingston, NY died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY on February 23, 2019. Jane was born on August 24, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School in Dobbs Ferry, NY in 1967. She then went on to graduate from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in Sociology in 1971.

While at college Jane became involved in many organizations and was passionate about many causes. She eventually became president of the student government in 1968 and was involved in many of the socially conscious movements, concerts and rallies that occured during that time. After graduating Jane decided to take a somewhat different path and followed her passion and became a stone mason. She crafted paths, patios, foundations, walls and more with her hands and assiduous eye for detail, art and function. During the winter months she worked as a carpenter too. Jane also continued to be involved in many community organizations and movements. Some of the causes and interests that Jane was passionate about and involved in were: women's rights issues, shelters for battered women, LGBTQ+ rights, Amnesty International, the ACLU, art and artistic organizations such as Theatersounds, painting, photography and sculpture, the environment, organic food and farming, and astrology. She was active throughout the Kingston, Woodstock and New Paltz area and built a large network of friends and comrades.

Jane was also passionate about family and she worked hard to take care of and keep her family together. She was concerned for everyone and concerned that they were in touch with each other and pursuing their passions. She would always be there to help when anyone was in need. In 1979 she met her partner Joan with whom she raised a family and who she cared for until Joan's passing from cancer in 2005.

Jane is survived by: Her daughter Sarah and her grandson Jacob. Her step-son John(Maryellen) and his daughter Carynn, Mia and Aliye Rhea. Her step-son Michael (Diane). Her 5 siblings, Joe, Vickie, Paul, Gloria and Michael. She was predeceased by her partner of many years Joan and Joan's son Christopher
