Jean Gargano, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Jean was born on May 9, 1928, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Fannie Guglielmo. She was born and raised in the Bronx where she graduated from Walton High School. As a young woman, she worked at Abercrombie & Fitch. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and participated in many church events.
On June 15, 1947 in Mount Vernon, she married Alphonse Gargano who passed away on July 12, 2009. She is survived by her son Alphonse Gargano and wife Rita; son John Gargano and partner Susan McGuire; grandchildren Alphonse III, Gerard, Robert and Kristin, Johnny and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Lillyana, Martyn and Robert; and sisters, Lucille O'Rourke and Jeanette Guglielmo. She was predeceased by her son, Jerry Gargano and his wife Joyce; and her sister Marie Petti.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Rose Hills Memorial Park.
