Jeannette
Schaible
November 21, 1936 – December 28, 2024
Jeannette Schaible, a resident of the Poughkeepsie area for over 60 years, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 88 years old.
Born in Carey, Ohio on November 21, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Oleafa (Peterson) Shuman. Jeannette graduated from Capital University in Bexley, Ohio in 1958 and worked as a math teacher for a few years in Ohio.
On December 26, 1959, she married Paul M. Schaible, and they subsequently moved to Poughkeepsie. Jeannette was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fishkill, dedicating countless hours to various activities and programs, including the church's music ministry. A talented musician and songwriter, she played the trumpet and guitar for her church and other organizations. Both she and Paul participated in ministry to prisoners and Tres Dias religious retreats.
Known for her exceptional baking skills, she was famous for her amazing Christmas cookies. In her younger days, she enjoyed playing tennis. Because she had always enjoyed driving, she worked for many years for Hertz Car Rental, accepting assignments to shuttle cars between Stewart Airport and various New York area airports. Jeannette was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians).
Paul survives her at their home in Poughkeepsie. Additional survivors include her son, David Schaible, and his partner, Lecia Zulak; her granddaughter, Kachine Schaible; her siblings: Fred Shuman (LuAnn), David Shuman (Sharon), Deborah Smith (Elaine), and Cheryl Morton (Subash); as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. Jeannette was predeceased by her parents, her stepfather Robert A. Morton, her stepbrother Dale Morton, and her son Mark Schaible.
