FISHKILL - Joan Marie Cancro, 84, an area resident for 5 years and formerly of Yorktown Heights and Ossining, died peacefully on October 9, 2018 at her home.

Born in the Bronx on August 2, 1934, she was the daughter of Anthony and Frances (Locascio) DeSimone. Joan was employed as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Leonard A. Kaufman until her retirement in 1990. She was a very active community volunteer with the Ossining Women's Club and Phelps Memorial Hospital. Joan was a fantastic cook, and she enjoyed traveling, reading and animals.

On April 28, 1957, Joan married Russell J. Cancro who survives at home. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, John and Lisa Cancro of Taos, NM, Dr. Joanne Cancro and Charlene Allen of Boston, MA, and Susan and Dr. Michael Kullman of Waccubuc; her grandchildren, Alexandra, Olivia and Jack; her sister, Mary Ann Greco and husband, Frank of Fishkill; and nieces, nephews, grand nieces, other relatives and many friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 1pm at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill.
