Joan A. Sourenian Daly, 59, a resident of the Town of Union Vale since 2008 and formerly a long-time resident of Fishkill and Yorktown Heights, died on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 24, 1950 in Bronxville, she was the daughter of the late George Calcagnini and Barbara Saltus Calcagnini of East Marion.  She was a 1968 graduate of Yorktown High School and majored in business at Pace University. She also pursued advanced management and human resources training at Columbia University's School of Business.

Joan was a partner with IBM Global Services Human Resources Organization.  Until her retirement earlier this year, she had dedicated 38 years of her life in the areas of employee relations, career development and corporate acquisitions. She designed and developed expanded flex time, an enhanced leaves-of-absences program, a pre-retirement leave and a work-at-home program.

Joan was a parishioner of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction. She served as a Director on the Dutchess County Council Girl Scout Board and had been a member of the Southern Dutchess Country Club Women's Golf League.  She was a member of the Fishkill Rotary Club since 1991 where she was a Past President and Director, as well as a Paul Harris Fellow.  She was a trustee of the Blodgett Memorial Library District in Fishkill from 2001 to 2008, a member of the Town of Fishkill Republican Committee from 1997 to 2008 and the Town of Union Vale Republican Committee from 2008 until the time of her death. She had also served as a Delegate to the 9th Judicial District and as a special Chairman's appointee on the Dutchess County Republican Executive Committee.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, James D. Daly. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her brothers George Calcagnini and his wife, Karalee of Brewster and John Calcagnini and his wife, Marzena of Redondo Beach, CA; her nieces, Caitlin and Emily Calcagnini; and her nephew, Michael Regal.  She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Heather Ann Sourenian, on August 22, 2003.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
