Joan A. Fitzpatrick, a resident of Fishkill since 1979 and formerly of Mahopac, died at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan on Thursday, December 4, 2014. She was 65.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Iride (Speroni) Donohue, she was born in Manhattan, NY on July 26, 1949. Her family later relocated to Westchester County, where Joan graduated from Somers High School.
She worked alongside her family at Fitzpatrick Insurance Center in Peekskill, where she served as Office Manager. Joan donated her time to many charitable organizations including Hospice, blood drives, walk-a-thons, and was always participating in her children's school and extracurricular activities. She was instrumental in the fundraising of the original playground at Brinckerhoff Elementary School in Fishkill. Joan relished her relationships with the members of the 'Fab 5', a group of her close girlfriends who trained for and walked marathons together.
On August 2, 1969, she married E. Michael Fitzpatrick at St. Mary's Church in Somers. Michael survives at home.
She is also survived by her daughter, Aimee C. Reilly of Fishkill; her son, Daniel D. Fitzpatrick & his wife Julianne of Poughkeepsie; her daughter, Pamela Jean Classey & her husband Timothy of North Carolina; her grandchildren, Keara Dae, Maggie Rose, & Mick Reilly, Benjamin Liam & Molianne Fitzpatrick, and Kayla & Kylie Classy; her siblings, Mike Donohue of Florida, Jim Donohue & his wife Nancy of Fishkill, Jeph Donohue of North Carolina, Casey Benney of Wappingers Falls, Patricia Donohue of Yorktown Heights, and Mary Williams & her husband William of Poughkeepsie; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, all of New Jersey, Dennis & Louise Fitzpatrick, Patricia & Robert Tucker, Therese & Gary Pound, and Miriam & Mark Schlosser; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Billy Donohue, and her son-in-law Stephen Reilly.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 8 and Tuesday, December 9 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Premier Medical Group and Vassar Brothers Medical Center for the care and compassion they offered Joan throughout her illness.
Joan's final act of charity occurred after her passing on Thursday, when she gave life to one in need as an organ donor.
