Joan Horan

Joan (Johanna) Horan (nee Quirke) passed away while in the tender care of Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.
She was one of eight children. Joan was predeceased by her parents, James & Mary Quirke; her brothers, Michael, Jimmy, John, and Paddy; and sisters, Norah and Mary.
Joan will be sadly missed by her husband, William; sister, Betty Griffin; her son, James (Janet) Horan and their daughters, Erin (Cristina), Colleen, Alanna, Shannon, Kiera; her daughter, Brenda (Doug) Crossley and their children Eamon, Tiernan, Eilish and Saoirse; and her daughter Una (Dan) Moore and their children Fiona, Aidan and Claire. Joan also had many nieces, nephews and cousins both here and in Ireland.
Joan was born in Inchinleamy, Ballyduff, County Waterford, Ireland on July 26th, 1938. She attended grade school at Kilmurray National School in Kilworth and later graduated from the Presentation Convent in Fermoy, County Cork. At 19, she emigrated to the United States and resided in NYC. She was employed by Pan American Airlines for several years. She loved to attend the Irish dances where she met her husband William, a native of Doora, County Clare. They married on June 15th, 1963, at St. Elizabeths church in Washington Heights. She was a devoted wife and loving and caring mother and grandmother. In 1978, she moved to Wappingers Falls where she settled and raised her family. She was a long-standing parishioner of St. Columba Church. Joan was an avid gardener and walked many miles throughout her active life. She will be dearly missed.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 12th from 5-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 13th at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
