Obituary

Joan Luna, 71, a resident of LaGrange for 50 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 11, 2010 after a long illness, surrounded by her family.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 25, 1939, she was the daughter of Mary McGinley and Thomas Pomilla. A graduate of Bushwick High School in 1956, she performed ballet as a young woman. She married her high school sweetheart Joseph Luna on October 10, 1959, her loving husband of 51 years, and together they raised three children in LaGrange.
Joan was active in her community, serving as President of the Lagrange Women's Republican Club and LaGrange Club Estates, and volunteering for the Marian Guild of St. Francis Hospital, Noxon Road PTA, American Heart Association, Greyhound Rescue and as a 4-H Club Leader for Dungaree Dolls. She was employed by the Town of Lagrange Highway Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Building Department, EDC Temps, Danish Design Center and City Drug in Poughkeepsie with her husband, where he was co-owner. Joan was a parishioner of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Parish of LaGrange.
Joan loved caring for her family and friends, was generous with her affection and brightened the spirit of each and every person she met. She was an avid baker and cook, talented seamstress, enjoyed quilting and embroidery and took special care of her greyhound dogs. She cherished long conversations with those dearest to her, and took special care of the people in her life.
In addition to her husband Joseph, Joan is survived by her three children, Gina Luna-Maserjian and her husband John Maserjian of Poughkeepsie, Joseph Luna Jr. and his wife Denise of Danville, New Hampshire, and Gregory Luna of Wilmington, Delaware; one grandson, John Thomas Luna of Danville, New Hampshire; brother Frank Pomilla and his wife Irene of Lagrange; sister-in-law Francesca Lucido of Kings Park, N.Y; ten nieces and nephews and seven grand nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 13 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 14 at 10 a.m. at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Rt. 82, Lagrangeville, N.Y., 12540, followed by internment at St. Denis Cemetery, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction.
