Fishkill- Joel M. Smith, a resident of Fishkill, NY passed away on December 23, 2023, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 71 years old.

Joel was born in Ossining, NY on June 1, 1952, the son of Thomas and Claire (Hunt) Smith.

He was married to Roberta Caruso who predeceased him in 2017.

A skilled woodworker, Joel was a proud Union Carpenter and Welder until his recent retirement.

A talented guitar player and singer since high school, music was his life. In recent years he performed with the Roadhouse Roosters, playing many different venues in the area. He was particularly proud that his band won the 2023 Blues Challenge held by the Hudson Valley Blues Society. He was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hiking, and camping especially in the Adirondack Mountains.

Joel is survived by his daughter Alexandra Smith and her husband Richard Ericson, his beloved grandson Hugo Ericson, his sister Nancy Cofone and brother Gerry Smith as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his bandmates.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the American Lung Association.

A celebration of life for Joel will take place at a later date.
