Obituary

John P. Barrett, 90, a resident of Queensbury and formerly of Sylvan Lake, died on February 11, 2018 at his son's home in Fort Mill, SC.

Born in Brooklyn on June 26, 1927, he was the son of John and Sarah (Walsh) Barrett. John proudly served our country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He had retired from Conservative Gas in Wyandanch and then worked for the Wappingers Central School District. He retired as the Superintendent for Transportation for the Arlington School District. Following his retirement, he went on to work as a bus driver and monitor for the Glens Falls School District.

John was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but more than anything, he loved spending time with his sons and grandchildren.

On Easter Sunday in 1949 at St. Joseph's Church, John married Sallie (Jack) who predeceased him on November 11, 2002. He was also predeceased by his son, Michael Barrett. John is survived by his sons and their wives, Patrick and Rebecca Barrett of Fort Mill, SC, John and Kathleen Barrett of Beach Haven West, NJ, and William and Jeanie Barrett of Stuyvesant; his grandchildren, Reina, Michael, Kevin, Shane, Patrick, Erin, Justin, Christopher, Eric and Trevor; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be on Friday at 10am at the funeral home followed by interment in Long Island National Cemetery with military honors.
