John "Jack" Classey, a lifelong local area resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was 66.
Son of the late Thomas J. and Frances (Toppi) Classey, he was born in Yonkers on June 7, 1959. In 1977, he graduated from John Jay Senior High School, where he ran track and was recognized as Class Clown. He fondly remembered being awarded the "Golden Spoon" trophy for a cooking competition in Home Ec.
Jack worked as a carpenter for over 20 years as a member of the Hudson Valley Local 279 Carpenters Union. A skilled craftsman, he supported his wife in building the beautiful log home where they lived for over 35 years and raised their daughter.
An avid lifelong New York Yankees fan, he also enjoyed the outdoors and taking walks in nature, loved food, cooking, and watching Westerns, especially those starring John Wayne. He had a great love for classic rock and always had the radio on in the background.
Jack will be remembered for his incredible and silly sense of humor and cracking jokes that could make a whole room laugh. He was always the life of the party and an incredible dancer, despite what anyone might say otherwise. He had a sincere passion for bringing smiles to the faces of everyone he met.
A true family man, he was a devoted husband and loving and supporting father. He created and kept an inspiring amount of wonderful lifelong friendships that go back as far as grade school.
On October 13, 1984, he married Cynthia Schmitt at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction. Cindy survives at home in Highland.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Caitlyn Classey & her fiancé Jeremiah Wenutu of Kingston; his siblings and their spouses: Michael & Monica Classey of Poughkeepsie, Thomas & Carol Classey of New Windsor, Kathleen & Brian Rexhouse of Wappingers Falls, Eileen & Les Martell of Murrells Inlet, SC, Scott & Jill Classey of Newburgh, James & Jeanine Classey of Gaylordsville, CT, and Timothy & Pam Classey of Holly Springs, NC. In addition to all of his siblings, he is survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, March 8 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A memorial service will be conducted at 4:30pm.
Jack Classey was one of the sweetest, kindest, funniest people you could ever meet. "I'm on a mission to spread joy, happiness and laughter throughout the land." -Jack Classey
