Obituary

John Morgan Cobb, 88, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023, at Waterview Hills Rehabilitation Center in Purdy's, NY, after a brief stay.

Morgan, as he has been known since he was a child, was born to the late Ross and Dorothy (Mosley) Cobb in Beacon, NY. Morgan grew up in Fishkill as an only child.

After graduating from his local High School, Morgan left Fishkill for State College, Pennsylvania to earn his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University. While studying at Penn State, Morgan was enrolled in the ROTC Program which enabled him to enlist in the Navy as an officer immediately after his graduation. During Morgan's years at Penn State, he also followed his love of airplanes by learning to fly and obtaining his pilots license at quite a young age.

Morgan served two years in the Navy aboard a cruiser stationed in the South Pacific while also using his skills as an accomplished pilot. Upon returning to Fishkill from his service, he started his career as a mechanical engineer for Texaco Research Center in Beacon. His career there spanned over 35 years.

Morgan raised his family in the small town of Cold Spring just a few miles south of his origins of Fishkill, all the while continuing his passion for flying.

He was a licensed flight instructor, passing on his love and skill of flying to many many people. Morgan had retained is Flight Instructors rating right up until his passing, an accomplishment he was very proud of.

After Morgans retirement from Texaco, and in addition to his flying, he kept his passion for all things mechanical by working locally with his close friends refurbishing old hydroelectric plants here in the Hudson Valley. Morgan continued to build and create with his mind and his hands well into his eighties.

He is survived by his two sons John David Cobb, and Edward (Ted) Ross Cobb and his wife Shani, as well as four grandchildren, Ethan, Miles, Shay, and Jessie and including two great-grandchildren, Ellsley and Finlend.

Calling hours for Morgan will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 10am to 12 Noon at McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc. 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, Ny. A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY 12524.
