John Thomas Cole

John Thomas Cole, 78, died on July 14, 2026 at the Fishkill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. An area resident since 1992, he formerly resided in Mount Vernon and the Bronx. John was a vibrant spirit who touched the lives of many in our community with his kindness and laughter.John was born on December 5, 1947 in Manhattan. He retired as the Parts Manager for the Town of Greenburgh.

John grew up at the Foundling Home in Manhattan. As an adult, he learned woodworking and would make piggy banks and lawn ornaments. And let's not forget John's incredible secretive generosity-every Christmas, he donned his Santa suit and surprised children in hospitals and the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie with gifts that he purchased with the money he earned from his crafts.

John enjoyed volunteering at Our Savior Lutheran Church at Vacation Bible School and lending a hand with repairs. His passion for NHRA made him a proud collector, and those who knew him will always remember his infectious sense of humor and big-hearted spirit.

On September 14, 1974 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in the Bronx, John married the love of his life, Patricia Ahus. Patricia, his wife of 52 years survives at home. He is also survived by his sons, John Cole and Jason Cole; his "adopted" daughter, Paige; and his grand dog, Jasmine. Although his family was small, John made up for it with an extended group of friends who became his family.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10am at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1400 Route 52, Fishkill followed by interment in Hopewell Cemetery.
