John Henry Dahlin, Sr. "Johnny D", 78, father to Kenny and John Jr., grandfather to Tyler and Claire, son of Henry and Katherine, brother to Linda and Steve, uncle and friend to many, passed on March 3, 2022.
A lifelong area resident, and graduate of Wappingers Senior High School, Johnny was a self-employed auto mechanic and inventor, running Johnny D's Automotive, and was known locally as one of the finest wrenches around for the better part of 40 years. Blessed with an inquisitive and imaginative mind, Johnny used his talents to provide quality and affordable service to his customers while always greeting them with a friendly smile.
A lifelong motorcycle rider and enthusiast, Johnny was an avid motorcycle flat track racing fan, and braved the cold and snow each March through the 70s and 80s riding his 1967 Electra Glide Harley Davidson to Daytona Beach, Florida to attend the races during Bike Week. This love of racing was passed on to his sons, especially his eldest Kenny who has been racing for almost 50 years.
During the 1990s and 2000s, Johnny developed an outboard bearing clutch support system (Whisper Shift) to fit Harley Davidson motorcycles which was later patented.
His later years have been spent making new friends, while enjoying his old ones, holding court with a hot cup of coffee and breakfast sandwich, always eager to talk and laugh, enjoying the simple pleasures of his family, his friends, a good dog, the Yankees, hot coffee, a cold beer, sunshine and good food. To all who were friends with Dad and helped Dad, we thank you and are eternally grateful.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date at which time all those who wish to attend will be notified.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Dad's honor.
