Obituary

John Dambra, a Poughkeepsie resident since 2010, formerly of Westbury, Long Island, died on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the home of his daughter & son-in-law in Poughkeepsie.
Son of the late Gaetano and Rosa (DeFeo) D'Ambra, he was born in Brooklyn on March 14, 1922. In 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and received three service medals and one conduct medal.
On January 20, 1951, he married Rosalie Hirn at The Church of Our Lady of Mercy in Forest Hills, Queens.
He established a successful home improvement business on Long Island.
He was predeceased by his wife in 2010.
John is survived by his daughter, Eve D'Ambra, Vassar College professor & her husband Franc Palaia, artist of Poughkeepsie & Rhinebeck; his granddaughter, Lily Palaia; and his brother, Al Dambra.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Rose Scala.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
