Obituary

John Francis “Bud” DeNicola, Jr., 74, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1973 and formerly of Massapequa, died peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Brooklyn on August 22, 1939, he was the son of John F. DeNicola Sr. and Caroline Brandreth DeNicola. Bud was employed as a National Sales Manager for AT&T. Following his retirement, he worked for the Wappingers Central School District at the Brinckerhoff Elementary School where he was lovingly called “Mr. Bud.”
He was a parishioner of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, and had also served as a lector and usher for St. Columba Church where he was a CYO Advisor for many years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Council #4065, Knights of Columbus. An avid supporter of the Kingston High School Tiger Band, Bud volunteered his time through the years as a Cub Scout Leader, platelet donor and driver at Castle Point VAMC.
On September 24, 1960 at St. Mary’s, Star of the Sea, Brooklyn, Bud married Catherine O’Connor who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Catherine M. and Glen Patzner of Lake Katrine, Ann and Terry O’Herron of Poughkeepsie, John and Barbara DeNicola of Liverpool; his grandchildren, Thomas Patzner of Brooklyn, Catherine E. Patzner of Astoria, Joseph R. Patzner of Lake Katrine, Emily Rose Patzner of Lake Katrine, Carrie O’Herron of Poughkeepsie, Elizabeth DeNicola of Liverpool, and John Michael DeNicola of Liverpool; his sister, Jacqueline Shortell and her husband, Thomas; his brother, Edward DeNicola; his sisters-in-law, Winnie O’Connor, Margaret Cain and Ann Young and her husband Ted; his granddogs, Molly and Oliver; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 7-9pm and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
