POUGHQUAG – John Edward Dunlavey, 80, a lifelong area resident, died on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Lutheran Care Center.
Born in Verbank on April 23, 1933, he was the son of the late Thomas Dunlavey and Blanche Bowman. On January 17, 1981, he married Ruth Lagerwall in Canaan. Mrs. Dunlavey predeceased him on April 25, 2003. John was employed by the Town of Union Vale for over 30 years until his retirement in 1990. He had still been employed at the town's recycling center at the time of his death.
John is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Snyder and her husband Robert of LaGrange; his grandchildren, Nicole and Christopher Sampson; his brother, Francis Dunlavey and his wife Barbara of Millerton; his sister, Margaret Demers of Hyde Park; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. John was also predeceased by his sister, Claire Straley.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 am at the Valley Bible Fellowship Church, 1875 Clove Road, LaGrangeville followed by burial in Clove Cemetery.
