Jack Durcan, a Wappingers Falls resident since 1974, formerly of the Bronx and County Sligo, Ireland, died at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie on September 20, 2012. He was 67.
Born in Ballincurry, County Sligo, Ireland on October 21, 1944, he was the son of the late John and Cathleen Cahill Durcan. Jack received his Bachelor's Degree from University College of Dublin in Ireland and his Master's degree from The New School in Manhattan. In 2002, he retired from the Local 608 Carpenters Union of New York City. Having worked as a carpenter his entire life, Jack was devoted to his work and a proud union member. He was involved with the clean-up and restoration at Ground Zero and spent many years as a woodworking teacher at Mamaroneck High School.
In 1970, he married Breda McDonald in Ireland. Mrs. Durcan survives at home.
He is also survived by five children – his daughter, Fiona Fortuna & her husband Kevin of Cold Spring; his daughter, Deirdre Dillow & her husband Tommy of St. Petersburg, FL; his son, John Durcan & his wife Katie of Washington, DC; his daughter, Cathleen Power & her husband Gregory of Norwood, MA; and his son, Eoin Durcan & his wife Jessica of Reston, VA; eleven grandchildren – Niamh, Aoiee, & Aine Fortuna, Finn, Ronan, Aidan, & Tadhg Dillow, Nora & Maeve Durcan, and John & Josephine Power; his siblings, Anne Cunney & her husband Michael of Mineola, NY, Kevin Durcan & his wife Patricia of Plainview, NY, and Joan Durcan of New York City; also many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 22 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill.
