Obituary

John J. Freeley, 70, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1998 and formerly of Woodside, Queens, died on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Astoria on September 5, 1940, he was the son of John Freeley and Katherine Grippo. He was employed as a glazier for Local #1281 in New York City for 19 years until his retirement in 1988. John was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. Known as "The Legend", he loved playing golf. He played Seniors Softball in the Empire State Games and was a Golden Gloves Boxer. He was an avid Yankees, Giants and Rangers fan. He also was a coach with East Fishkill Little League.

John married his childhood sweetheart, Joanne Schmidt, who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughters, Janine Rodriguez and husband Michael of Poughkeepsie and Jennifer Gallagher of Rockaway Park; and his grandsons, Michael and John Rodriguez and James Gallagher.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
