HOPEWELL JUNCTION – John J. Gallery, Sr., 78, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1973 and formerly of Peekskill, died on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie.
Born in Peekskill on December 21, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Jenny Seaboldt Gallery. John retired in 1992 from Con Ed in Buchanan where he worked for almost 41 years of service as a Gas Mechanic. He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps.
On June 3, 1989, John married Linda Florence Perlitz at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction where he was a parishioner. Mrs. Gallery survives at home.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son, John Gallery, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Salt Point, his daughter, Diane Saraceno and her husband John of Casper, WY; his daughter, Karen Halay and her husband Frank of Springfield Center; his step-daughter, Donalyn Weller and her husband Randy Sr. of Newburgh; his step-daughter, Claudine DeStefano of Rome; his grandchildren, Jennifer Souther and her husband Levi of Kalispell, MT, Laura Saraceno of Laramie, WY, Benjamin Halay of Burlington, VT, Adam Halay of Springfield Center, Catherine Gallery of Salt Point, and Samuel Gallery of Salt Point; his great-grandchildren, Sophia Souther and Hudson Saraceno Carpenter; his 6 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine Gallery in 1982 and his siblings, Elizabeth Devitt, Dorothy Doslop, William Gallery, Jr., Terence Gallery, and James Gallery.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 – 4 and 7 - 9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
