John M. Giammichele, 88, a resident of Yorktown Heights and formerly of Poughkeepsie and the Bronx, died on Monday, December 2, 2013 at his daughter's home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in the Bronx on August 23, 1925, he was the son of John and Etta Giammichele. He proudly served our country in the US Navy during World War II as a Quarter Master 3 and was employed by the City of New York Department of Sanitation for 25 years until his retirement in 1976. John was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown Heights. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in the Bronx and American Legion in Yorktown. An avid bowler, he was also a great fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.
On September 26, 1948, John married Camille Benzio who predeceased him on October 30, 1995. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Janet and Quentin Bishop of Yorktown Heights, John and Paula Giammichele of Hopewell Junction, Patricia and Paul Peffers of Poughkeepsie; his brother, Michael Giammichele of Yorktown; his sister, Joyce Benizio of CA; his grandchildren, Taryn Farrington, Shaun Giammichele, Justin Giammichele, Chelsea McCorkell, Kristianna Peffers, Lucia Peffers and Diana Perrella; and his great-grandchildren, Lacey, Ella and Rylee Farrington, Brayden Giammichele, Ryan and Andrew Perrella.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11am at St. Patrick's Church, 137 Moseman Road, Yorktown Heights followed by entombment at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley with military honors.
