John L. Griffith, 82, a resident of Poughquag and previously of Fultonville and St. Johnsville, died on August 31, 2016 at The Pines in Poughkeepsie.

Born on July 14, 1934 in Yonkers, John was the son of Howard and Eleanor (Reel) Griffith. John proudly served our country in the Army National Guard. He was the owner and operator of Garret Storm Inc. in Beacon for 20 years until his retirement in 1986. In his retirement, he owned dairy farms in Fultonville and St. Johnsville.

John enjoyed sailing, skiing, frost bite racing, bee keeping and scuba diving. He was the past president of the Beacon Sloop Club.

John is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Griffith and her boyfriend, Ted Hines of Concord, MA; his former wife, Elizabeth Griffith of Poughkeepsie; his nephews, James Griffith and his husband Bob Moylan, and Glenn Griffith and his wife Ellie; his great nephew, Clyde Griffith; his great niece, Alison Savage; and his brother, Howard Griffith of Safety Harbor, RI.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-6 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction with the funeral service at 6pm.
