BEEKMAN – John Thomas Healy, 86, an area resident since 1969 and formerly of Buchanan, NY died on Monday, October, 15, 2012 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Galway Ireland on October 28, 1925, he was the son of Michael and Ellen (O'Brien) Healy. On December 28, 1959 in Richmond, VA, he married Kathleen O'Driscoll: His wife of 53 years survives at home. John was self-employed as a general contractor and proprietor of Jest Realty Corp. in East Fishkill for 35 years until his retirement in 2005.
John was a graduate of Fordham University, a devote Catholic, traveled and worked throughout the United Kingdom and Canada before settling in New York.
During his younger years he was an avid athlete, runner and competitive long-distance biker. Later in life he enjoyed golf, dancing, singing and playing cards with family and friends.
John was a parishioner at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction. He was a member of the German/American Bicycle Club, the Kevin Barry Irish Club, Kiwanis Club, Putnam County Emerald Association, and the Mid County Improvement Association.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Thomas Healy of Boynton Beach, FL, Ellen Pietropaoli and her husband Tony of Hopewell Junction, John A. Healy and his wife Debra of Millbrook, and Kathleen Ryan and her husband Enda of Poughquag; his grandchildren, Anthony and Justin Pietropaoli, Jennine and Seana Healy, and Marissa and Thomas Ryan; his sister, Josephine Gannon his brother, Michael Healy both of Co. Galway Ireland; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Rev. Patrick Healy, Sr. Teresa Healy, Sr. Fidelma Healy, and Martin Healy.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
