Obituary

John J. Hurley, Jr., a Wappingers Falls resident since 1995 and formerly of Yonkers, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Sunday, January 15, 2012. He was 69 years old.
Born in Yonkers on December 2, 1942, he was the son of the late John J. and Alma Davis Hurley. After graduating High School, John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for three years until being honorably discharged.
In 2005, he retired as a Lieutenant with the Yonkers Police Department, where he served for 40 years.
On April 20, 1985, he married Margret Purcell at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers. His wife Peggy survives at home.
John is also survived by his six children, Kevin Hurley (U.S. Army), stationed in South Korea, Denise Leckey & her husband Bill of South Carolina, Erin Tippett & her husband Layton of Canada, Timothy Hurley of Wappingers Falls, Catherine Hurley of Wappingers Falls and Claire Hurley of Wappingers Falls; seven grandchildren; his sister, Kathleen Donald & her husband William of Yonkers; his mother-in-law, Margaret Purcell of Wappingers Falls; and his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hurley of Yonkers and Kathleen Morrison & her husband Edward of Fishkill; also several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by four brothers, Timothy, David, Robert and Patrick Hurley.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Our Lady of the Falls, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to the Yonkers Police Athletic League (P.A.L.), PAL Building, 127 North Broadway, Yonkers, New York 10701, www.yonkerspal.org or to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, to benefit the South Circle 5 Unit (please write "Restricted to SC5" in the memo), 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
