BEACON- John V. Martorano, a local area resident for many years, died on Monday August 25th at Westchester Medical Center. He was 93 years old.

Son of the late John & Margaret (Pohlmann) Martorano, he was born on October 20th, 1931, in the Bronx.

John served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954, where he served as an aviation mechanic. After the military John would go on to work in his father's garage. He would then open, Fishkill Plains Garage in East Fishkill. Later on, he worked as a security guard for the Indian Point Nuclear Plant. John would then go on to work for the VA at both Castle Point and Montrose, as part of the maintenance.

John volunteered at the East Fishkill Fire Department for many years. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, even being a part of couple of clubs over the years. He was a private pilot for many years as well. John was also an avid outdoorsman. Most of all, John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

On March 24th, 1970, he married the love of his, Alice (Way) in Mexico.

Aside from his parents, John is predeceased by his wife, his son Thomas, and his daughter Kim.

He's survived by his children; Cheryl O'Herron, Robert Vanvoorhis, Scott Martorano & his wife Donna, James Martorano & his wife Maryann, John Martorano & his wife Christiana; his daughters from a previous marriage, Jo-ann Nestor, Lori Hopp, and Sue Kaufman; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Michael & Cornelius Martorano, Catherine Grieco, and Rosemary Mora.

An hour of visitation will be held from 11 am to 12 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A memorial service will commence at 12 pm. Following the service, the inurnment will take place at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY.
