Obituary

Former Hopewell Junction resident John McNamara of the The Villages, FL died on Sunday, July 13, 2014.
He was born in New York City on
July 12, 1923 and moved to Staten Island, NY as a young boy. Mr. McNamara served in the US Navy during WWII, transporting supplies to servicemen in Europe. Later, he went on to become a New York City Police Officer. He retired from New York City Police Department after 33 years of service and relocated to Hopewell Junction, NY. He returned to the work force in security at the Nuclear Power Plant. In 2003, Mr. McNamara along with his family moved to Florida. In his leisure time, Mr. McNamara loved gardening, watching sports and spending time with his family.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Rasmussen; three grandchildren, Lorri-Ann Dunleavy and her husband Christopher Dunleavy, Renee Rasmussen, John Rasmussen; three great-grandchildren, Torri Ann Rasmussen, Erin and Brendan Dunleavy; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife, Irene Tighe McNamara; his son-in-law, Carl Rasmussen; his brother, Dennis; and his three sisters, Peggy Sherwood, Kathleen Dugan and Nancy Cicero.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, from 2 – 5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery with military honors.
