John McSwegan, 69, an area resident since 2010 and formerly of Carmel, NY, Palm Desert, CA and Staten Island, died on November 22, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Manhattan on December 30, 1955, he was the son of the late John and Lorraine (Mahler) McSwegan. John started his career as a Licensed master plumber and then was employed as an Operations Manager for Lowe's Home Improvement.

A self-proclaimed heathen, John enjoyed music, sports and photography. He was an avid fan of the Yankees, Jets and Rangers. John's favorite music genres included classic rock and new age jazz and he loved going to see them in concert. He had an evil sense of humor and was known to say the most demented things at the most inappropriate times.

On November 18, 2000 in Cold Spring, John married Rosa Oliva who survives at home. He is also survived by his son Sean McSwegan ; his brother, Matthew McSwegan and his wife Jodi; his best friend and faithful furry companion, Rae. John also has several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews he loved dearly.

Services will be private at this time.

Memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, Crate Escape Foster Safe, or the Dutchess County SPCA.
