Obituary

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – John F. Meade, 87, died peacefully on July 17, 2022 at Putnam Ridge. An area resident for over 22 years, he previously lived in the Bronx and Briarcliff.

Born in Bronx on November 6, 1934, John was the son of the late Alexander and Helen (McTiernan) Meade. He proudly served in the US Navy. John was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance in Manhattan for over 40 years until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling with his family.

John loved basketball. He played Varsity Basketball at Archbishop Molloy High School in Manhattan under Coach Lou Carnesca and was part the team that became the CHSAA Champions and he was inducted into the Archbishop Molloy Hall of Fame. He went on to play basketball for Division I Villanova University while earning his bachelor's degree there.

On December 21, 1990 at St. Theresa Church in Briarcliff, he married Jeannette (Bierner) Meade who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughter, Theresa Ferreira and her husband Richard of Bethel, CT; his daughters-in-law, Louise Meade and Dawn Bonds; and his grandchildren, Christopher, Gregory, Kayla, and Jessica. In addition to his parents, John was also predeceased by his first wife, Virginia (Daughton) Meade in 1988; his son, Kevin Meade; his stepdaughter, Jeannette DelGreco; and his stepson, Alan Bonds.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Putnam Ridge for their excellent care and compassion.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by military honors. Burial will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
