Obituary

EAST FISHKILL – John Peter Miceli, 70, a lifelong area resident, died unexpectedly on October 13, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Poughkeepsie on March 7, 1953, he was the son of Peter and Ann (Gulfo) Miceli. John was the owner and operator of Empire Supply and Pool Company in Hopewell Junction for many years. He was a member of Local #117 – Operating Engineers. John enjoyed golfing, traveling, walks on the beach, gardening, concerts, Sunday pasta dinners, lobster and clam bakes, watching his grandchildren play sports, sitting by a pool with a martini in his hand, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

John was larger than life and dedicated to everyone he loved. He was the rock and patriarch of his family and always gave his time and love and lived life to the fullest. He was always there for anyone that needed his help and he made sure everyone he met felt loved and included. His optimism brought sunshine to everyone he met and knew.

John was a parishioner of St. Columba Church. In his younger years, he was the 1972 Senior Class President of John Jay Senior High School and was the 1971, 1972 DCSL wrestling champion in his division. As time passed, he became an active and beloved member of the community. He was a lifetime member of the Whortlekill Rod and Gun Club and he also served on the East Fishkill Zoning Board.

On January 12, 1974 at St. Denis Church, John married the love of his life, Janice Sirko, who predeceased him on November 25, 2020. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Michelle and Timothy Murphy, Heather and Anthony Scafidi, and John Miceli; his grandchildren, Gus, Owen and Logan Murphy, Victoria, Giuliana, Antonia and Rocco Scafidi; his sister, Joan Muhlbauer and her husband Paul, Carol Guadagno and her husband Salvatore, and Ann Teed; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Miceli; and his brother-in-laws, Larry Bartelemucci and Stephen Teed.

When thinking about a person like John, the memories are endless and joyous. The inspiration of his life and how he lived it will elevate our lives forever.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a celebration of John's life at the Ryan Family Farm LLC, 2517 NY-82, Lagrangeville from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.
