John "Jack" David Murphy (1924-2012)
John "Jack" Murphy, 87, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, died on February 22, 2012 following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Daniel J. Murphy and late Susan T. Whalen-Murphy and brother of the late Daniel J. Murphy.
Jack was born on August 24, 1924 in Poughkeepsie. He grew up in Poughquag, and was a graduate of Pawling High School. Jack was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served as a Staff Sergeant with the 3rd Marine division participating in several South Pacific island invasions including Guadalcanal, Bougainville and Guam.
Following the war, Jack attended and graduated from Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN. Jack was employed by IBM for 33 years. During the last eight years of his career, Jack lived in Tokyo, Japan where he managed IBM business operations in twelve Asian countries. Following his retirement from IBM in 1984, Jack made his home on the Big Island of Hawaii. He opened his own Japanese antique shop, Shibuya Station, sharing his extensive knowledge and love of Japanese artwork and antiques.
Jack is survived by his nieces, Susan King and her husband, John, of Franklin, MA, Deborah Murphy of Ridgefield, CT, and Kathleen Procario and her husband, Steven, of Mahopac; his sister-in-law, Lillian J Murphy of Saugerties, NY; his cousin, Lyn Nestler and her husband, Doug, of Hopewell Junction; and his cousins Anna Loper and Mary Sheeran of Pawling. He is also survived by his great niece, Whitney (King) Billerman and her husband, Brad, and his great-nephews, David King and his fiancée, Allyson Beck, John King, Andrew Procario, and Christopher Procario.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 31 at 10 AM at St Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St Denis Cemetery with military honors. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
