John Nestor's Obituary
John Thomas "Buddy" Nestor, 82, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Rose Catherine Nestor and their six children, John Nestor and wife Cathleen, Kathleen McDermott and husband Michael, Noreen McGarry and husband Kevin, Thomas Nestor and wife Denise, Rose Hartwell and husband Richard, Brian Nestor and wife Kathleen; and seventeen grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as "Pop Pop", Jacqueline, Sean, Matthew, Ryan, Kathleen, Richard, Morgan, Erin, Meagan, Breanne, Sean, Daniel, Colleen, Neil, Maryclare, John and Patrick.
Son of the late Patrick and Mary Leary Nestor, Mr. Nestor was born and raised in New York City, as one of ten children; survived by sisters, Anna, Theresa, Eileen, and Maureen and husband Vinnie, and brother, Richard and wife Cathy. Mr. Nestor was a lifetime Yankees fan.
Mr. Nestor served the New York City Police Department for 22 years and served in the National Guard for over ten years. After retirement, Mr. Nestor spent over twenty years raising his youngest children in Spring Hill, Florida.
Mr. Nestor had a passion for his family serving in many capacities; father, counselor, advisor, friend, coach, chauffer and hero.
Mr. Nestor was a devoted Catholic, most recently serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 15th at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc.,1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 16th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, with burial to follow at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
