Obituary

John Robert O'Neill, a resident of Wappingers Falls, formerly of Belfast, Northern Ireland, passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY on Thursday, November 28, 2024. He was 90.

Son of the late Patrick and Mary (McKeown) O'Neill, he was born in Belfast on September 26, 1934.

John was a longtime employee of Nabisco at the company's former plant in Beacon, NY, where he was a master machinist. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and soccer enthusiast as an avid fan of Manchester United.

On July 26, 1958, he married Maureen Laycock. After 54 years of marriage, John was preceded in death by Maureen on June 7, 2013.

Survivors include his children: Bernadette O'Neill of England, Sharon Haggerty and husband Thomas of Woodruff, SC, Christina Gorey and husband Dean of Wappingers Falls, and Shaun O'Neill of Wappingers Falls; his grandchildren, Shaun O'Neill, Robert O'Neill, Jason O'Neill, Erin Crispo, Ryan O'Neill, Michael Haggerty, Timothy Haggerty, and Morgan Gorey; his great-grandchildren, Paige, Jessica, and Ben; his siblings, Jean Hamill, Mary Shaw, and Frances Henderson; as well as many nieces and nephews along with their families; and countless other loving relatives.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was also predeceased by his siblings Patrick O'Neill, Dennis O'Neill, Anna Rush, and Nell Quinn.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. To celebrate John's life, raise a pint of Guiness in his memory.
