Obituary

John C. Webb, Sr. died suddenly on May 18, 2011. He was a resident of Vero Beach, Florida and Blue Mountain Lake, New York. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Webb Goodemote of Rhinebeck and a son, John C. Webb, Jr. of Fishkill. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

The Webb family resided in Dutchess County for more than a century. Mr. Webb was born to Mr. and Mrs. M. Smith Webb on March 29, 1924. He enrolled in Middlebury College in 1942 and joined the Armed Forces in 1943. Mr. Webb served in the China Burma India (CBI) Theater.

In 1946, Mr. Webb married Helen (Dolly) Larson who predeceased him on July 11, 2010. Following his graduation from Middlebury College in 1948, he joined Edwin J. Webb & Son, now Emery & Webb Inc., an insurance firm in Beacon which was founded by his grandfather in 1886. In 1958, Mr. Webb was awarded the degree of CPCU (Charted Property & Casualty Underwriter) and in 1964, he became President of the firm.

During his career, Mr. Webb served on the Board of Directors, including Vice President, at Highland Hospital in Beacon. He also served on the Board of Directors for United Way of Dutchess County. Mr. Webb was a member of the original planning board for the Town of Fishkill which was established in the 1950s to prioritize the growth of the town. He was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He retired in 1989, and moved to Vero Beach in 1996.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
