Obituary

John K. Sweeney, 56, a resident of Mahopac for 23 years and formerly of Somers, died at his home on Saturday, May 4, 2013 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Yonkers on January 8, 1957, he was the son of the late John K. Sweeney and Bernadette Waldron Sweeney Murphy. He proudly served our country in the US Marines Corps during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Aquaduct Plumbing and Heating in Mahopac specializing in Hazmat.

On June 15, 1990 at West Point, John married Regina Carey who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughters, Emma and Hannah Sweeney; his father, Tom Murphy of Union Vale; his sisters, Diane Catherine Glover, Beth McLeary and Janet Almasi; and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements are under the directions of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., Hopewell Junction.
