Deputy Chief John Markley Webster, 75 of Fishkill, NY formerly of Plymouth, MA passed away suddenly on Friday, May 24, 2019. He was affectionately known as Big Papa.
John was the beloved husband to Jessie Marie (Dern) for 51 years. He was the cherished father of Jane Marie and her husband, John Christopher Norris; Francis Thomas; and Eryn Kelly. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Jessie Marie and sons, John Markley II (Packey); and Jason Murdoch (Webby); and daughter-in-law, Nicole Elizabeth (O'Meara) Webster; sister, Janet Blazes; and by his parents, Carlos Green, Jr. and Claire Rosenberry (Seacholtz) Webster. He was the loving Papa to Alexzandria Jordyn and Madison Marie Norris and Molly Lee and Bradley John Webster. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Green Webster of CA.
John was born on February 25, 1944 in Pottstown, PA. He attended the New York Military Academy and graduated in 1963. In 1964, he went to the University of Florida until 1965 when he joined the Marine Corps. He was a Captain in the Marines and a Vietnam Vet.
In 1972, he began his career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in the Law Enforcement Unit and retired after 32 years of service. After retirement, he worked at Jordan Hospital as Security and a group home helping adults with disabilities.
Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his family, friends, and playing Hearts with his granddaughters. John was a World War II History buff, NASCAR enthusiast and enjoyed the Grand Tour bicycling races. Guns and classic cars were among his favorite past times. In his younger years, he rode his Harley to/from work all-year-round and ran 3 marathons, 2 in Boston and 1 in New York. He was generous with his love, time, support, and money. The Fourth of July and Harborfest were two of the things he looked forward to most. He was always smiling and sharing a silly story or joke. He was deeply loved and will be missed.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Manomet Cemetery, 518 State Road, Manomet, MA. A celebration of life will be held at the John Alden Sportsman's Club, 16 Minuteman Lane, Plymouth from Noon to 4:00 PM. If you're planning on attending please wear purple in his honor, it was his favorite color.
