Obituary

Hopewell Junction- John W. Wren, 79, a longtime resident of Hopewell Junction, New York, passed away on September 3, 2022 . He passed peacefully at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, while listening to his favorite team, the Red Sox, as they broke the 86 year old 'Curse of the Bambino' in the 2004 World Series.

John was born in Mount Vernon, NY on February 17, 1943 to parents John and Anne (Stanfield) Wren.

He proudly served his county in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, as a military police officer. He defended Saigon during the Tet Offensive in 1968. His service to our country was recently honored by Hudson Valley Honor Flight, as they were able to fly him to Washington DC, where he visited the Vietnam War Memorial.

He worked as a banker for the Bank of New York until his retirement in 1998.

John enjoyed fishing on the East and West Branch Reservoirs with his boys. He also enjoyed working in his yard, cultivating beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. John was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and could often be found listening or watching their games. He shared his love of baseball with everyone who would listen and would be thrilled to know he passed his love of the game to his sons and grandchildren. Additionally, he loved to travel and took his family on several cross country trips to see National Parks.

John is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Verna (Salvesen) Wren, his two sons Christopher (Laura) Wren and Matthew (Nicole) Wren, and his 3 grandchildren (Madison, Aubrey and Andrew).

At this time, all services are private.
