LAGRANGEVILLE - John Luther Young, 84, died on November 11, 2025 at home with his children by his side. A resident of LaGrangeville, NY since 1978, he previously lived in Bethel, CT and Tokyo, Japan.

Born on September 30, 1941 in Toronto, Canada, John was the son of the late John Mair Lisgar Young and Lilla Jean (Elder) Young. He was a graduate of the Christian Academy of Japan, Calvin College, and Pace University. He began his career as a high school English teacher, transitioned to a career as a programmer with IBM. In 1992, after 25 + years of service, he retired from IBM, returned to teaching, and became a published author.

John was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church in Hopewell Junction, NY where he served as an elder for many years. He also served as a member of the Mid-Hudson Classis of the Reformed Church, and as a delegate to the Regional Synod of New York and as a delegate to the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America. John enjoyed photography and was a fan of college basketball.

He is survived by his son, Charles Christian Young and his wife Marci Iuliani of Orange, CT; his daughter, Amanda Emelie Young of Barcelona, Spain; his grandsons, Anthony Christian Young and Nicholas John Young; his brothers Stephen Young, Bruce Young, and Peter Young, and his sisters Kathleen Minor and Laurel Laird. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Virginia "Ginnie" Young on July 31, 2025, his brother Donald Young, and his sister Ruth Bellar.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22 beginning at 10am at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. The Memorial Service will commence at 11am with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Hopewell Reformed Church.
