NEWBURGH – Jorge A. "Jorgie" Mendez Machuca, 73, died on October 16, 2018 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. A resident of Newburgh for 30 years, he previously lived in Beacon and Puerto Rico.

Born in Rio Piedres, Puerto Rico on April 23, 1945, Jorgie was the son of the late Roberto Mendez and Francisca Machuca. He enjoyed playing softball and dominoes.

He is survived by his daughter, Maritza Mendez and her partner John Hocevar of Glendale; his grandchildren, Nicolas Mancinelli, Leena La Russa, Skip La Russa, and Robert Swanson, Jr.; his great-granddaughter, Isabella Williams; his life partner, Patricia Araya; his siblings, Gladys Viera and her husband Santos, Victor Mendez and his wife Eneida, Gabriel Soto, Jr., Elba Castro and her partner Neil Martin, Edwin Soto, and Wilfredo Soto and his wife Barbie; his former wife and friend, Carmen Mendez; his sister-in-law, Nora Robles; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 11 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow Street, Beacon followed by burial at St. Joachim Cemetery.
