José C. Vargas, 69, a fifteen year resident of Yorktown Heights and formerly of Stormville, died on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.
Born on September 18, 1940 in Ingenio, Nazca, Peru, he was the son of Pio and Zoila Guevara Vargas. Starting his career in the kitchen, José rose through the ranks to become Director of Maintenance for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. He retired in 2009 after 39 years. José attended St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown Heights. He was the Past President of the East Fishkill Soccer Club. He was also very involved as a referee, instructor, and assigner for various youth and adult soccer leagues in the tri-state area.
He is survived by Lynn, his wife of 38 years; sons, Cuper and Edgar; as well as two sisters and a brother.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by a Memorial Service at 6 p.m.
