Joseph Angelo Acocella, 81, formerly a long-time resident of New Rochelle, died on March 9, 2010. He was a veteran of the US Army during World War II and retired as an operating engineer for Local 137 after 44 years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing and fishing. On March 28, 1947, Joe married his childhood sweetheart, Geraldine Ianuzzi, who predeceased him on April 18, 2009. He was also predeceased by his sister Catherine Acocella. Survivors include his children, Angelo (Bud) Acocella and wife Susan, Kathleen Metz and husband Richard and Thomas (Tucker) Acocella; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his kindness, great smile and abundant love for his family and friends. Funeral Mass on Friday at 10:00 am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, New Rochelle followed by interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
